Then, change the RPGlobalInterval from its default setting of 86, seconds which is 24 hours to the appropriate interval. Restore points are deleted every 90 days. To change this value, just adjust the RPLifeInterval from 7,, which is 90 days. You can also specify a protected location in the registry that System Restore would normally overwrite. Right-click and select New Multi-String Value. Double-click the new value and enter the appropriate path to the location you want protected from System Restore.
Configuring System Restore Before using System Restore functionality, you should know how to configure your options for optimal performance. If there is more than one problem it may reboot again to continue repairing. At this time, you can plug out the DVD, restart your computer and everything should be working normally. Then you'll find that you can boot your computer successfully as normal.
If you fail to fix the crashed Windows XP well and you have important data in your hard drive to be restored back, you need a data recovery software. Get a more detailed tutorial to recover lost data from the hard drive.

Every time it restarts, it comes up with a message saying "system has recovered from a serious error" or words to that effect. I don't understand why this is happening.
