The combination of the unpolished coursework and this textbook made for a reasonably unpleasant experience. The course was new, and some kinks needed to be ironed out. Generally the information in the textbook was OK. However chapters were very long, and probably too much background information was given for an introductory textbook.

I was taking notes during reading the chapters, and in some cases there were upwards of sub-sections per chapter. I rarely fo Read for my intro finance class. I rarely found the "real life" examples very illuminating, but then I generally don't. My feeling is that I would have been better off skimming this, and for much of it was better off going to other sources. The CAPM was covered in a fair amount of detail, modern portfolio theory and the importance of diversification were talked about; I found the discussion of these topics much, much more readable in "A random walk down wall street".

Mostly helpful for a summary of Australian finance and for an overview of both financial planning as a job and the Australian market. The final chapters were burdened by regulations and seemed lacklustre compared to the clarity and concision of the first five chapters. The suggestions for further reading are tremendously helpful and merit the further star.
