I found an article for this for WSS 3. I am able to create an additional spstd9. The main part causing problem here is the change in code for page "spcf. Thanks Ravi but your solution is for publishing pages whereas I am looking for a solution specifically for web part pages. Your solution too is for publishing pages. My guess was that this would be a common problem given that web part page layouts are limited.
